Winter Wren Troglodytes troglodytes
Winter Wren Troglodytes troglodytes
The most striking attribute of this highly secretive bird is its beautiful long running musical and complex song, as western populations sing on average about 36 notes per second, while the song of eastern Winter Wrens have 16 notes per second.
It is the only wren to be found outside the America’s, occurring in Europe, Asia, and North Africa.
It inhabits moist coniferous forests with a dense under story and other habitats across much of North America. Feeding mostly on insects it will nest in any cavity found in upturned roots of downed trees as well as holes in stream banks, usually living close to the ground.
