Osprey Pandion haliaetus
Found on every continent except Antarctica, the Osprey is one of the most widespread birds in the world. One of the largest birds of prey in North America the Osprey is specialized at fishing as 99% of its diet is live fish. Catching with its talons it will carry larger prey to nesting sites with the fish headfirst to make it as aerodynamic as possible.
Ospreys have made a comeback since the ban of many pesticides including DDT in 1972, which had them seriously endangered by the mid 20th century.
