Caspian Tern Sterna caspia
Caspian Tern Sterna caspia
The Largest tern in the world the Caspian Tern nests on five continents around large bodies of water, such as large lakes, and coastal waters of fresh and saltwater habitats.
The young stay with their parents longer as they have considerable time in learning to catch fish for themselves and are fed by their parents even on wintering grounds.
Young salmon releases are increasingly more endangered as the largest breeding colonies in North America of the Caspian Tern are located off the coast of Oregon, where efforts are being made to move the colony away from fish stocking programs.
The average life span of Great Lakes Caspian Terns is about twelve years, with the oldest known record to be twenty six years
