Baltimore Oriole Icterus galbula
Baltimore Oriole Icterus galbula
A common visitor to parks and suburban areas preferring open areas with tall trees, the male Baltimore Oriole is distinguished from other orioles by its solid black head and flame orange markings. As brilliant as this bird is, it is often heard and not seen as it spends a lot of its time in the leafy treetops of deciduous trees gleaning caterpillars, insects and fruit from its branches and leaves. It also feeds on the nectar of flowering trees and will feed from hummingbird feeders and orange halves.
It breeds across North America east of the Rocky Mountains South to eastern Texas, Louisiana and Georgia, wintering in Florida, the Caribbean, central Mexico, Central America to northern South America.
